PICVISA has been awarded in June this year of an important European subsidy, within the H2020 R&D program, for the development of artificial vision solutions for the extraction of glass contained in urban solid waste.
Although selective collection of glass is a common practice in Europe, the content of mixed glass in urban waste (in the rest fraction) is maintained in proportions greater than 5%. Said glass contaminates the recyclable materials, in particular the compost obtained from the organic fraction, or is sent to landfill as rejection. The solution proposed by PICVISA will allow the recycling of such glass and its subsequent recovery.
The company will develop, over a period of 20 months, artificial vision equipment and a prototype plant in which glass waste can be extracted from a wide range of urban waste and its by-products.
