Visits like this are less about the company showing off its equipment and more about giving students a look at what an engineering career in recycling technology can actually involve.
PICVISA welcomed a group of 22 students and three professors from the Polytechnic School Milà i Fontanals in Barcelona, who visited the company's facilities as part of their studies.
During the visit, students had the chance to see PICVISA's optical sorting and robotic equipment in operation, getting a closer look at how artificial vision and automation are applied to separating materials such as glass, plastics and metals on an industrial scale. For students studying technical and engineering disciplines, seeing this kind of technology working on real production lines – rather than only in a classroom or lab setting – can make the connection between what they're learning and how it's applied in industry much more concrete.
Visits from local schools and universities are also a way for PICVISA to stay connected with the next generation of engineers and technicians who may, in time, go on to work in the recycling and automation sector themselves.
