In a significant step toward a sustainable textile future, Lipor has established Portugal’s first pilot textile recycling plant at its Ecopark in Porto.
In a significant step toward a sustainable textile future, Lipor has established Portugal’s first pilot textile recycling plant at its Ecopark in Porto. This pioneering initiative marks a new chapter in the country’s efforts to close the loop on post-consumer textiles and transition toward a circular economy.
As part of a publicly tendered project, the pilot unit features two advanced ECOSORT TEXTILE optical sorters by PICVISA, integrated with AI and hyperspectral vision technology. These systems enable automated classification of textiles by fiber and composition, bringing unmatched precision to the sorting process.
With this pilot facility, Lipor is testing new models of textile collection and recycling, preparing for scalable implementation across Portugal. The facility aims not only to increase recovery rates but also to lay the foundation for innovative recycling-based products and applications, fueling local circular value chains.
By investing in intelligent sorting technology, Lipor is positioning itself at the forefront of textile waste innovation in Europe — supporting the EU’s objectives for sustainable textiles and resource efficiency.
