A seminar focused on Latin America, held in Barcelona, is a reminder that sorting technology challenges aren't confined to any one region – and that lessons travel in both directions.
PICVISA attended the 5th international seminar of RELAGRES, the Latin American Network for Solid Waste Management, held on June 12th and 13th in Mataró, near Barcelona.
RELAGRES brings together researchers, companies and public bodies working on solid waste management across Latin America, with this edition held in Spain as a point of exchange between European and Latin American approaches. For a sorting technology provider, seminars like this offer insight into how waste management challenges – and the role automated sorting can play in addressing them – vary between regions with different collection infrastructure, regulatory frameworks and material streams.
These exchanges are particularly relevant for understanding how sorting technology developed in a European context might need to adapt for deployment in other parts of the world, where the starting point for waste management infrastructure can look quite different.
