Two visitors with a shared interest in the same outcome: AMB sets metropolitan waste policy, and Ecoparc 2 is one of the plants that has to deliver on it.
On July 5th, PICVISA's Test Center received a joint visit from representatives of AMB (Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona) and Ecoparc 2, one of the waste treatment plants serving the metropolitan area.
AMB is responsible for coordinating waste management policy across the Barcelona metropolitan area, while Ecoparc 2 is one of the facilities that processes the waste generated within it. Bringing both together for a single visit meant that questions about sorting technology could be considered from two angles at once – the policy perspective of what recovery rates the metropolitan area needs to achieve, and the operational perspective of what a plant like Ecoparc 2 needs from its sorting equipment to help get there.
For PICVISA, this kind of combined visit is a useful reminder that sorting technology decisions at an individual plant are rarely made in isolation – they sit within a wider metropolitan strategy that the technology ultimately has to support.
